Champions Online

Champions Online is a free-to-play MMORPG with a super-hero theme. The game was developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Atari but Perfect World took over.

One of the great things that this game has to offer...is that it allows people to keep dreaming about becoming a hero. Maybe you can't become one in real life but in this world you can, with no questions asked. Design your own costume, physical/magical powers and start your journey of saving the people that need your help...

Gameplay

“The game is more action-oriented than most MMOs. Successful attacks and blocks increase a power meter which can then be spent to unleash more powerful actions.
Unlike most MMOs, there are no armor pieces or armor sets to collect. Instead character dress is purely unique and cosmetic, as are most weapons - damage is calculated using the character's basic stats, with the addition of extra devices. Reflecting the game's original design as a console game, characters also possess much fewer skills than standard MMOs; however each skill can be highly customized with a variety of player-chosen "Advantages". This tends to make the game much faster-paced and less of a "grind" than traditional MMOs. The level cap is 40, with special endgame content and gameplay at the cap.

The game features an "orb system" where enemies defeated by the player may drop orbs that temporarily benefit the hero's powers, life, or energy.

The game includes non-combat crafting skills, based on Science, Arms, and Magic, each of these has three other specializations players can choose under them. There are also a variety of travel powers, including swinging using webs or grappling hooks, flying, fire flying, jet-boot flying, rocket boot jumping, hover disks, super jump, super speed, teleportation, acrobatics (fast running, leaps and flips), ice sliding, earth flying, and tunneling.” Etc.

Your travel skills can be changed any time you want, if you're not happy with the one you already have. Also more skills have been added and can be bought or used if you're a premium user...

You can find more about the classes by clicking on "Source".

Lineage II

Lineage 2 is a MMORPG developed and published by NCsoft and uses Unreal Engine 2.5.

Basic Gameplay

“To begin playing Lineage II, players create a character as their avatar in the game's medieval-style virtual world. All the races start off at Talking Island. Players can choose from either fighter or mystic professions at the start, except for Dwarves and Kamael which are only able to select the fighter profession; this choice acts as an archetype for later profession options. Each race has its own set of classes, even if humans, elves and dark elves have a lot of classes that are very similar to their counterparts in the other two races.

As players kill non-player character (NPC) monsters, they accumulate experience points and skill points (SP). As experience points accumulate, the character's level increases, meaning various attributes of the character are augmented. Players purchase and then upgrade their character's skills using SP. Players can play alone or as part of a group to fight monsters and complete quests for new skills, experience points, and items. Player versus player (PvP) is a significant portion of the game.

To make sure PvP stays under control, the design includes a Karma system that provides negative consequences for killing other players when they are not fighting back. When being in a chaotic state (karma number higher than zero) with a PK count of 5 or more, players have a high probability of dropping items after being killed.”

Classes and subclasses

“There is currently a large number of classes (36) for all races combined. Each race and subsequent class has a set amount of Stat Points already assigned to their class.

Upon completing the quests after reaching level 75, a player may add subclass to their character. This subclass starts at level 40. Limitations are put in place on which subclass one can choose (e.g. Dark Elves may not choose Elf subclasses. In addition, a player may not choose a class that matches their main class (a Dark Avenger may not become a Paladin, likewise a Treasure Hunter may not become a Plains Walker). Once a subclass has reached level 75, players may choose another. A character may hold a total of three subclasses in addition to their main class.”

I personally, did not enjoy playing this game.

Why?

The game seems to have dated graphics, gameplay is to dull and the lag is really annoying no to mention that most of the movement is done by mouse clicking...

There are of course players that enjoy playing the game because they used to play the first one, time ago and are familiar with most of the stuff that the game has to offer...however if you want to give it a try, it's up to you.

Jade Dynasty

Jade Dynasty is a free-to-play MMORPG created and published by Perfect World, the game is based on a popular Chinese Internet novel, Zhu Xian (诛仙).

Gameplay:

Jade Dynasty is set in a world based on ancient China, where the secrets of immortality and martial-arts perfection were fought over by six human factions: Jadeon, Skysong, Vim, Lupin, Modo and Incense Valley. Their pursuit of forbidden knowledge brought them into conflict with the demigod tribes of the Athan: the Balo, Arden, Rayan, Celan and Forta.
Each faction in Jade Dynasty has different skills, strengths, weaknesses and styles of play. Players can become more powerful through 150 levels and several endgame skill systems.”

The game also has unique features, like the Esper for example. The item allows its users to use a function similar to botting. In other words, the character can level up by itself and use potions without you interfering. The item also provides a new skill and extra attributes to its owner.

Pets
“Players are able to obtain pets and train them, improving their quality and evolving their appearance. Pets are very useful in-game as they attack enemies and possess skills of their own. Pets have levels just like players, but their power is more affected by the pet's Grade stat. A pet will level up either by fighting alongside its master or through items like Kylin or Miradrake Orbs, and its grade can be improved through pet jades. These can be obtained through quests or by trading in Celebean items, available through the Marketplace.
All pets have a star sign stat, which determines the attacks they have access to. A pet workshop function exists to craft training materials or gear for pets.
The pet's appearance can radically change at grades 12 and 18 using special mushroom items. The appearance change is purely aesthetic - it does not affect the pet's skills or attributes. Pets also chat with the player, with the mood of the pet determining what it says.”

Source

Jade Dynasty features several methods for quick travelling; this includes Skylords, Skyblades, and mounts.
Skylords: teleports between cities (players can only teleport to areas when their level is high enough)
Skyblades: allows players to fly through the air, though they require energy items to use (permanent ones can be bought with real cash)
Mounts: allows a player to travel on the ground faster than they could run (again permanent ones can be bought with real cash)

Jade Dynasty has 2 factions and 11 playable classes, 6 classes for the human faction and 5 for the Athan.

One more interesting thing the game offers its players is the meditation feature, the player will earn exp over time and also charge his Esper for botting.

Continent of the Ninth

C9 is a free-to-play action MMORPG by Webzen, the maker of Arctic Combat and ARCHLORD X.

Gameplay

Players step into the role of a hero determined to set things right. Encounter swarms of ruthless monsters invading the countryside using a variety of animated skills and combat moves similar to Dragon Nest, Rusty Hearts or Vindictus. Complete quests, raid dungeons, craft, and melee on the PvP grounds to prove your worthiness as a legend.

Classes

Fighters are melee warriors who use various weapons and shields to attack and bash their enemies. Fighters must eventually choose a path for themselves, and they may choose to become a Blademaster , Warrior, Guardian, or Berserker.”

Hunters stalk their prey before attacking them from a distance. Their weapons include daggers to quickly dispatch enemies that get too close, and bows to deal devastating attacks from far away. Eventually, hunters have to choose from the specialized classes available to them, and they may choose to become an Assassin, Ranger, or Scout.”

Shamans resemble the priest class in other games, but shamans in C9 can attack enemies using magic or a magic staff, which doubles as a weapon. After reaching level 20, shamans must choose whether to become an Illusionist, Elementalist, or Taoist.”

Witchblades are natives to Blaine's Shalidi, once the gathering place of the gods, an area imbued with the mysterious powers of ancient deities. Tireless efforts allowed the Witchblades to eventually absorb these powers and become elite Witchblades – capable of both lightning-quick physical attacks and potent magical abilities.”At level 20 they can become Slayer, Warden or Bladedancer.

Keep in mind that the classes are gender locked, so if you want Male you will have to choose Fighters/Hunters, otherwise the other two.

Rift

Rift is a fantasy-themed MMORPG offered by Trion Worlds. It takes place in a mystical world known as Telara.

Settings:

“Rift is a MMORPG set in a fantasy world called Telara, which is the focal point of several different elemental Planes. These Planes are realities representing the elemental forces of Air, Fire, Water, Earth, Life, and Death, and it is at the one point where every one of these Planes intersect with each other that Telara exists. Each Plane is governed by a Dragon-deity, which is the personification of that elemental force. Through the actions of the Dragon of Extinction, Regulos, the various Dragons have united in an alliance known as the Blood Storm, for the purpose of invading Telara and gaining use of the intersection of all of their realms. In the past, the Blood Storm was defeated by the inhabitants of Telara with the help of the Vigil, the most powerful of the native gods of Telara.”

“The Guardians piously follow the religion of the Vigil, the supreme gods of Telara. They include the high elves, the Mathosians (a warlike culture of humans from the north), and dwarves. Ascended Guardians were resurrected by the Vigil after dying at the hands of Regulos during its return to Telara. Guardians fight and die against one of Regulos' commanders, only to be brought back at the beginning of Rift.”

“The Defiant are those who, for cultural, historic, or personal reasons, do not follow the religion of the Vigil and have put their trust in science and technology as a way to conquer the forces of Regulos. They include the Eth (a highly advanced human culture from the south), the Bahmi (descendants of interbreeding between Air spirits and humans), and the Kelari (animistic, cabalistic dark elves). Ascended Defiant were resurrected through technology based on the study of the soul-structure of Ascended Guardians in an apocalyptic future in which Telara has nearly been consumed by Regulos. At the beginning of the game, players of Defiant are sent back in time from this point to the beginning of Rift, allowing them to fight at an opportune moment in Telara's timeline, to overthrow the religion of the Vigil and defeat Regulos.”
Classes:

There are 4 classes that can be played in Rift: Warrior, Cleric, Mage and Rogue. "Each class starts with access to eight different 'souls' from that calling, which have trees to which they can allocate a number of points gained each level. Rift's soul trees have two levels: branches, which are the specific abilities/bonuses that the player allocates the points to, and roots, which are the soul's base abilities that are unlocked as the player allocates a certain number of points into the branches. All races may become all classes."

Same as in WOW, Rift uses colours for the weapons' rarity, so they can be common, rare, legendary etc. Besides some things which are obviously different, the game seems to be copying some ideas from other games, such as Skill Tree, barbershop etc.

When the game release was announced everyone was really excited and was hoping to try it, even if it was p2p, however the game wasn't a big success as everyone expected due to the fact that it was more or less a copy...

I personally don't like the game graphics and the storyline, however others might not have the same opinion as me so I suggest playing the game or watching some videos...

Tera Online

Tera (The Exiled Realm of Arborea) is a 3D fantasy themed MMORPG developed by Bluehole Studio. Tera uses Unreal Engine 3.

Gameplay:

TERA has typical MMORPG features such as questing, crafting, and player versus player action. The game's combat uses a real-time battle system that incorporates third person camera view. The player targets an enemy with a cross-hair cursor rather than clicking or tabbing an individual opponent. Players need to actively dodge enemy attacks. A keyboard and mouse or a control pad can be used to control the character.

Tera Gamescon 2011 Trailer from Machinima

Races:

Aman: “Amani are direct in speech and action, honest, candid, and somewhat imperious. They are usually respected, often admired, sometimes feared. No one doubts they will say what they mean, do what they say, and make life very hard on their enemies.”

High Elves: “Though the blood of elven soldiers bought their seat at the Valkyon Federation table, many among other races do not trust the elves' "New Way," believing the desert city's walls conceal many secrets, and that the elves never gave up their conquering ways.”

Human: “As creators of the Valkyon Federation, they are admired and respected by all the nations of the world for their role in bringing together the coalition that will defeat the argons and return the world to peace at last.”

Elin: “The elins have one driving goal: if it’s not good for nature, stop it. Older and wiser than they appear, they join with forces of nature and mortal races to sweep their enemies from the battlefield. Their speech is often dark, forthright, and otherworldly, and their sense of humour can border on vicious. Other races find the elins' manner and behaviour off-putting.”

Castanic: “Castanics inspire more conflicting emotions than any other race in the federation. Clever and skilled, castanics are also opportunistic and hot-tempered. A castanic never forgets a friend and never abandons an ally. They're also notoriously quick-tempered and have a tendency to decapitate first and accept apologies second. They are also adept merchants—cunning negotiators who love the interplay of bargaining, and strive to come out on top in every deal.”

Popori: “The popori nation is made up of two distinct races. The elins—small female humanoids—were created by the goddess Elinu out of her own divine essence. The poporis are non-human beasts awakened to sentience by the elins. They are small, and accustomed to not being taken seriously. Poporis are curious, candid, uncompromising, and utterly ferocious—resolute and tenacious defenders of nature. They are quick to learn, and quick to judge. Lose a popori’s respect and you may never get an opportunity to regain it.”

Baraka: “Despite their gentle nature and generally pacifistic philosophy, it would be a great error to suppose baraka are weaklings, for their other great hunger is for balance. Balancing mind and body means that every young baraka learns the art of combat alongside the art of knowledge. Like the amani, the baraka fiercely defend the weak and downtrodden.”

Classes:

Warrios:  “Quick attacks and high mobility make a warrior essential to group play, but also very survivable while soloing. Tanking with this class is difficult, but possible. If you're choosing a warrior to be a tank, be prepared for a challenge.”

Lance:  “A lancer is a heavily armored fighter focused on anchoring a battle. Generates maximum threat with shouts and special attacks, sacrificing movement and attack power for the best durability in the game.”

Slayer:  “A lightly armoured, agile fighter with a devastating greatsword. High damage attacks combine with evasive manoeuvres for a dynamic combat style.”

Berserker:  “Berserkers use charge-up attacks to deal massive damage. They can also block incoming frontal attacks, though they lose MP quickly when not attacking.”

Archer: “The archer is a highly mobile, ranged DPS(damage per second) class. By channelling energy into the bow, the archer is capable of a wide range of attacks, dealing massive burst or rapid damage to foes.”

Sorcerer: “The sorcerer is a ranged damage class focused on annihilating the enemy with high-damage "nuke" attacks. The mobile artillery of TERA.”

Mystic:  “Mystics are a strong support class with skills to protect and enhance their party through buffs and auras. They also summon mighty thralls to assist, heal, and aid them in battle.”

Priest:  “The priest is a robed magic user whose primary role is to restore health and vitality. However, a priest is not to be taken lightly—the same power that revives allies can also smite foes.”

Tera is a pay-to-play game, however it offers a 7-day free trial if you want to check it out first.
